The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope: Towards a New Era in Astronomy

Abstract:

The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) has been identified

by the National Academy of Sciences as the highest priority

ground-based facility for the next decade. I will provide an overview

of the LSST project and highlight the key science topics it will address.

I will conclude by describing the steps that the astronomical community is

taking in preparation for the LSST operations, including the challenges that

we will face in light of the enormous data output from the telescope.
