The Higgs Boson Discovery

Abstract:

The announcement of the Higgs Boson discovery by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the CERN Large Hadron Collider was made in July 2012.

This confirmed the existence of the final particle predicted by the standard model of particles and fields. The theoretical prediction of this particle by Peter Higgs and François Englert won the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics. This talk will discuss the importance of the Higgs Boson, it's production and decay channels, its discovery, and the subsequent measurements of its properties since 2012.
