BELLINGHAM, Washington, USA — Naren Ganesh, a junior at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS), has been awarded the 2025 Optics and Photonics Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. He is the only high school student among this year’s recipients.

Ganesh conducts research at the Department of Physics under Professor Yuzhe Xiao, focusing on thermal radiation in non-equilibrium porous media for potential use in cochlear photobiomodulation—a technique aimed at preventing hearing loss.

“I’m honored to receive this prestigious scholarship,” said Ganesh. “I’m excited about the impact our project could have and grateful to SPIE for their support.”
