Alan Tao Xu

Bio

Alan Tao Xu is VP of R&D at Canadian Solar Inc. After receiving his Ph.D degree from University of Toronto, Alan joined Canadian Solar Inc. and has worked there for about 14 years. Now he is responsible for the R&D activities of Canadian Solar's photovoltaic division, including innovations in silicon ingot growth, new solar cell development, new module technology development and PV system design and performance evaluation. He is a leader in the industry in developing half-cell technology, large wafer cells (166mm/182mm/210mm), N-type (TOPCon and HJT) technology, multi-busbar technology, bifacial module technology etc.  He is also an expert in the IEC/Semi standard committee and has led the development of multiple IEC and SEMI standards.
